How would you develop a national awareness campaign? Name some of your potential collaborators (stakeholders).
Imagining that I'm a provider in the field working towards developing an awareness campaign about the dangers of radon, there are multiple steps I would take and multiple stakeholders I'd partner with. Ideally, I'd release this campaign during radon awareness month (January), adding onto information that may already be shared in the community on this topic. By releasing a campaign during this time period, we can secure constant and consistent messaging that is complimentary to other messaging taking place.
In regards to the platform I'd use, I would do further research into the population to determine what media outlets they interact with the most (newspaper, television, print media such as billboards, school newsletters for parents, radio, etc.). I believe that the development of a multidisciplinary task force can help inform this decision, recognizing that different providers know more about their specific populations than one individual may know.
In regards to individuals that we could include in the task force, I'd suggest 1-2 practitioners (i.e. lung cancer physician, nurse, etc.), a public health specialist, the local department of public health, the local department of environmental health, the EPA, and community members. By securing a multidisciplinary team, we can build off of each other's skillsets and develop a campaign that best addresses the needs of the communities being served.

Hi Nalleli,
ReplyDeleteI agree with your campaign, its a great idea to start the awareness campaign in January. Utilizing existing and formulating new partnerships with media outlets will be vital to increasing and improving public knowledge regarding radon hazards. Multidisciplinary approach is also another component that is critical to successfully tackling this issue.
